Homicide Unit investigating suspicious death in Mayland Heights

Our Homicide Unit is investigating the death of a man that occurred early this morning in the city’s northeast. If deemed a homicide, this would be the city’s fourth homicide in the past ten days.

At approximately 2:30 a.m., today, Saturday, Nov. 6, 2021, we were called to an apartment building located in the 1800 block of 14 Avenue N.E., for reports of a disturbance in one of the units. Upon arrival, officers located one male deceased inside the apartment.

An autopsy will be scheduled with the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.

At this time officers are working to review evidence, including CCTV and witness statements, to determine the events that led up to the man’s death. No suspect descriptions are available at this time.

“This has been an extremely busy week for our Service,” says Staff Sergeant Martin Schiavetta of the Calgary Police Service. “Homicide investigations are complex and require resources from multiple different units including patrol, general investigations, forensics, crime scenes, cybercrimes, and other specialty areas. Over the past 10 days our officers have managed three other homicide investigations, in addition to safely resolving numerous other violent and high priority incidents in our city.”
