Fentanyl re-processing lab shut down, two charged
The Calgary Police Service Drug Unit has charged two men after an apartment building was evacuated after an unknown white powder was located in one of the units.
Following what was initially believed to be a heroin trafficking investigation, a search warrant was executed on Thursday, Nov. 17, 2016, at a residence in the 0-100 block of Westpark Link S.W. Once inside the residence officers located signs of a fentanyl powder re-processing lab and immediately evacuated the area for the safety of members of the public, and the officers involved. No one was injured as a result of the investigation and the RCMP Clandestine Laboratory Enforcement and Response (CLEAR) Team was brought in to remove and identify the substances located within the residence.
As a result of the search warrant the following items were seized:
- 11 grams of methamphetamine
- 26.6 grams of powder cocaine
- 65 grams of crack cocaine
- 263 grams of fentanyl powder
- 645 fentanyl pills
- 25 grams of psilocybin
- 1,167 grams of an unknown powder
The drugs seized are worth an estimated $88,000. The raw fentanyl powder had the potential to create 263,000 tablets.
As a result of this investigation, two men have been charged.
Sukhjeet Singh SIDHU, 21, of Calgary, is facing 19 drug-related charges.
Amanpreet BAL, 26, of Calgary, is facing seven drug-related charges.
They will next appear in court on Monday, Nov. 28, 2016.
The apartment specific to this incident will remain uninhabitable until remediation can be completed. All other tenants have been allowed to return to their units.
