Family dog shot and killed during home invasion

Two men have been arrested following a home invasion and shooting that left a family dog deceased.

Just after 11:30 p.m., on Wednesday, March 28, 2018, police were called to a home in the 100 block of Margate Close N.E., for reports that a number of people had forced their way into the home and that shots were fired. Upon arrival, the family dog was found deceased within the home.

Officers flooded the area and were able to locate two people believed to be connected to the incident. They were taken into custody and are facing charges including break and enter to commit an offence, using a firearm in commission of an offence, possession of a dangerous weapon, and cruelty to an animal. Their names will be released once they have been identified and charges are officially laid.

Three people were in the home at the time, all adults. Although the exact motive is not yet known, nor is it known if the residents who were home at the time were the intended target, it is believed to be a targeted attack.

Police continue to search for an additional two men who are believed to be connected to the incident. Descriptions of those men are not yet available.
