Driver charged after $6,600 in drugs located in vehicle

We have charged a man with several offences after he was arrested for suspected impaired driving and officers found about $6,600 worth of drugs in his vehicle.

On Wednesday, Dec. 31, 2025, at about 1:50 a.m., officers conducting patrols located a running 2011 Mazda 3 in a parking lot on Brentwood Road N.W., with the driver appearing to be unconscious behind the wheel. When officers woke him up and spoke to him, they suspected he was impaired by drugs and conducted a roadside sobriety test. The driver failed and was arrested for drug-impaired driving.

During a search of the vehicle, the officers located and seized:

167.9 grams of psilocybin; estimated street value: $1,800
202 pharmaceutical pills; estimated street value: $2,000
21 MDMA pills; estimated street value: $1,200
37 LSD tabs; estimated street value: $370
14.7 grams of cocaine; estimated street value: $1,280
one gram of methamphetamine; estimated street value: $20

Following his arrest, a Drug Recognition Expert (DRE) performed an additional test and concluded the driver was impaired by a drug. The suspect refused to provide a blood sample.

Joshua Edmund HAYWARD-GENGE, 33, has been charged with:

One count of possession of cocaine crack for the purpose of trafficking
One count of possession of methamphetamines for the purpose of trafficking
Four counts of possession of other drugs for the purpose of trafficking
One count of possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime under $5,000
One count of failure or refusal to comply with a demand
Two counts of failure to comply with a release order

He will next appear in court on Friday, Jan. 9, 2026.
