Commission holds September regular meeting

The public and media are invited to participate in the September regular meeting of the Calgary Police Commission on Wednesday, Sept. 28, 2022, from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m.

Regular meetings include a public portion where commissioners discuss a variety of topics with the Calgary Police Service leadership and hear from the public. There is also a private portion where commissioners and the Service discuss police conduct complaint investigations, personnel issues and any other sensitive matters that cannot be discussed in public.

The agenda for this month’s public meeting includes:

  • A presentation on gun violence in Calgary
  • A presentation on the Service’s employee engagement efforts
  • An update on the Service’s anti-racism work
  • A presentation on the 2022 Citizen Satisfaction Survey results

A media availability with Commission Chair Shawn Cornett, the researchers that conducted the Citizen Satisfaction Survey, and Chief Constable Mark Neufeld will follow the meeting, likely around 5:30 p.m. 

Members of the public can register to participate in the meeting by either making a presentation or asking a question. Anyone wishing to provide input to the Commission also has the option of providing a written submission.

About the Commission

The Calgary Police Commission is a body of 10 community members and two city councillors appointed by City Council to provide independent citizen governance and oversight of the Calgary Police Service on behalf of all Calgarians.

To protect the political neutrality of the police, Alberta’s Police Act requires that the police chief report directly to the Commission and that the Commission give direction to the Service through the chief, police policies, monitoring of the police conduct complaints process, and approval of how the police budget is spent.
