Clarification: Eagle Feather Blessing Ceremony

We are aware that there have been questions surrounding the involvement of the Blood Tribe/Kainai Nation in relation to the Eagle Feather Blessing Ceremony held on Tuesday, March 25, 2025.

We want to clarify that the four feathers blessed during the ceremony were not gifted from the Blood Tribe/ Kainai Nation and were procured a year ago from a Blood Tribe/ Kainai Nation member. However, they are intended to be gifted to the youth participating in our Indigenous Junior Police Academy. The feathers that will be placed in CPS facilities and district offices came from Alberta Fish and Wildlife and Métis artist Bob Davis. We apologize for any confusion this has caused.

We deeply regret that what we had hoped would be a positive step for the Service in our journey to Truth and Reconciliation has caused distress to members of the Blood Tribe/ Kainai Nation community. That was certainly not our intention, however, we recognize the impact this has had.
