Charges upgraded to manslaughter in fatal altercation investigation

The death of a man that occurred following an altercation in northwest Calgary has been deemed a homicide and the charges against the suspect have been upgraded to manslaughter.

The victim is Kwok Leung LAU, 76. It is Calgary’s 13th homicide of 2025.

Chiu Man YUEN, 79, was originally charged with one count of aggravated assault. The charge has been upgraded to manslaughter.

We believe there was an individual who intervened in the altercation, and we are looking to speak with that individual, along with any other witnesses to the altercation, to support the investigation.
