Man charged with aggravated assault following altercation
We have charged a man with aggravated assault following an altercation earlier this week in northwest Calgary.
The victim, who was hospitalized in life-threatening condition following the incident, has since died.
At approximately 2:15 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 21, 2025, we responded to a report of a physical altercation between two men in the parking lot of the McDonald’s, located at 63 Crowfoot Way N.W. When police arrived, they located and spoke to both individuals, who declined medical attention and further police involvement. After ensuring the situation was resolved and one of the men had left the restaurant, officers cleared the scene.
At approximately 3:55 p.m., emergency crews were called back to the same location for man in medical distress. The individual was one of the men involved in the earlier incident. He was transported to the hospital in life-threatening condition and died today, Thursday, Oct. 23, 2025.
We believe the victim and the suspect are known to each other.
Chiu Man YUEN, 79, was charged with one count of aggravated assault prior to the victim's death. He will next appear in court tomorrow, Friday, Oct. 24, 2025.
An autopsy has also been scheduled for tomorrow. Depending on the outcome of the autopsy and consultation with the Crown Prosecution Office, upgraded charges may be considered.
We believe there were eyewitnesses to the altercation who may have information that could support the investigation. If anyone witnessed the incident or has information, they are asked to contact police by calling 403-266-1234.
