Charges laid in homicide

Police have charged one man in relation to a homicide that occurred last month.

On Friday, July 8, 2022, at approximately 3 a.m., police were called to a residence located in the 1900 block of Cottonwood Crescent S.E., for reports of a man in medical distress.

When officers arrived at the scene, they found a man suffering from injuries believed to be consistent with an assault, and he was taken to hospital in serious condition.

On Saturday, July 16, 2022, Kevin Allen HONISH, 55, of Calgary, died in hospital as a result of his injuries.

Investigators believe the assault occurred at a residence located in the 2500 block of 10 Avenue S.E., and was the result of a dispute between the victim and accused, who were roommates at the time.

We have now charged Collin Dean OXTOBY, 48, of Calgary, with second degree murder in relation to the death of HONISH.

OXTOBY will next appear in court on Wednesday, Aug. 10, 2022.
