Police investigate fatal assault in the city’s southeast

UPDATE: The victim can now be identified as 55-year-old Kevin Allen HONISH of Calgary.

Our Homicide Unit is investigating a fatal assault that occurred earlier this month and has sadly resulted in the death of a man.

On Friday, July 8, 2022, at approximately 3 a.m., police were called to a residence located in the 1900 block of Cottonwood Crescent S.E., for reports of a man in medical distress.

When officers arrived at the scene, a man was suffering from injuries believed to be consistent with an assault, and he was taken to hospital in serious condition.

Following our investigation, police believe the assault occurred at a residence located in the 2500 block of 10 Avenue S.E., several hours prior to the victim attending the residence at Cottonwood Crescent looking for assistance.

On Saturday, July 16, 2022, the victim died in hospital as a result of his injuries.

“We are looking to speak to anyone who was in or around the residence where the assault took place,” says Staff Sergeant Sean Gregson of Calgary Police Service Homicide Unit. “We want to provide answers to the victim’s family and loved ones, and need people with information about this incident to come forward.”

An autopsy is scheduled for Thursday, July 21, 2022.
