Charges laid in August 2022 hit and run collision

We have charged a Calgary man in relation to a hit and run collision from August 2022 that left a pedestrian seriously injured.

At approximately 3:30 p.m., on Tuesday, Aug. 9, 2022, police were called to the intersection of Fifth Avenue S.E. and Macleod Trail S.E., for reports of a collision. Prior to the collision, a woman in her 20s was waiting to cross, standing in the northwest corner of the intersection. Investigators believe a silver/grey, early 2020s, Jeep Gladiator, travelling at a high rate of speed in the far-left lane of Fifth Avenue S.E., passed other traffic, ran a red light and entered the intersection as the pedestrian stepped into the roadway to cross.

The pedestrian was struck by the front driver’s side of the Jeep Gladiator and the vehicle fled eastbound along Fifth Avenue S.E. The pedestrian was transported to hospital with serious, life-threatening injuries.

Police located the Jeep Gladiator believed to be involved in the collision and continued the investigation to locate the driver.

Today, Friday, April 28, 2023, we charged Domenico BUONINCONTRI, 50, with dangerous operation causing bodily harm and hit and run causing bodily harm.

BUONINCONTRI is scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday, June 20, 2023.
