Celebrate Culture Days all September

From September 1 to 30, Calgary Culture Days highlights arts, culture, heritage, diversity and community spirit in the city. The City of Calgary is excited to support a packed Culture Days schedule with 30 days of opportunities for Calgarians to discover, experience and celebrate arts and culture through community events, festivals, live music and more.

As a lead-up to Culture Days, The City has partnered with Arts Commons to present “Party in the Plaza,” a free event at Olympic Plaza on Wednesday, Aug. 30 at 7 p.m. The event will be headlined by Canadian Hip-Hop pioneer Kardinal Offishall and dance diva Kiesza. There will be food trucks, drinks and an opening showcase of local Hip-Hop artists presented by 10 at 10.

“We are thrilled to support Calgary Culture Days and welcome everyone to explore and experience the rich tapestry of cultures in our city through a variety of captivating events,” says Franca Gualtieri, The City of Calgary Manager for Arts and Culture.

Alberta Day Events in Calgary

Calgary Culture Days coincides with Alberta Day on September 1 which is the anniversary of the day that Alberta became a province in 1905. Alberta Day celebrates the province’s unique spirit, culture and heritage.

On Thursday, Aug. 31, Calgarians are invited to celebrate Alberta Day and kick off Calgary Culture Days with “Music on the Avenue.” Bring your lunch and head down to Stephen Avenue between noon and 1 p.m. to enjoy the sounds of local live music outside the Palace Theatre (219 – 8 Ave. S.W.).

Then on Saturday, Sept. 2, The Government of Alberta is presenting free live entertainment featuring headliner band Nice Horse as part of an Alberta Day celebration at Heritage Park. Park admission will be free and the day will be brimming with family-friendly activities, including exploration of the historical village, vendor market, an exciting drone show and more!
