CCTV image released in Deerfoot Athletic Park homicide investigation

Investigators have released a CCTV image of a homicide victim who was discovered in a northeast park this week.

The body of Judy MAERZ, 58, of Calgary, was located by a citizen in Deerfoot Athletic Park at approximately 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, Feb. 16, 2023.

Detectives from our Homicide Unit have released a CCTV image of Judy from the evening of Wednesday, Feb. 15, 2023, and are asking anyone who may recognize her from the night of Feb. 15, or the morning of Thursday, Feb. 16, 2023, to come forward.

Additionally, investigators continue to seek dashcam footage from anyone who was driving northbound on Deerfoot Trail between Memorial Drive and 16 Avenue N.E., on the morning of Thursday, Feb. 16, 2023, between 4 a.m. and 10:30 a.m.

“We have released a photo of Judy from the night before her body was discovered, in hopes anyone who may have seen her, or had contact with her in the days leading up to her murder will come forward with information,” says Staff Sgt. Sean Gregson of the Calgary Police Service Homicide Unit. “Sometimes people might not realize how valuable even the smallest piece of information can be in helping us determine the events leading up to a homicide victim’s death.”
