Calgary woman charged in dental insurance fraud case

Calgary police have charged a woman who is believed to be responsible for submitting fraudulent dental insurance claims resulting in nearly $30,000 in losses.

Police collaborated with an internal investigator with the insurance company and their dental consultants to review hundreds of claims and determined that between January 2013 and January 2023, the accused fraudulently submitted false billings for endodontic, restoration and extraction procedures.  All claims were submitted by the same dentist at All About Family Dental, located at 7520 Elbow Drive. S.W. So far, enough evidence has been collected to determine five patients’ information had been used to submit false claims to the insurance provider.

As a result of the investigation, on Monday, March 31, 2025, Alena Vladimiro SMADYCH, 55, was arrested and charged with one count of fraud over $5,000.
