Calgary man charged in September shooting

We have charged one man in relation to a September shooting in the northwest that left a woman with serious injuries and caused minor injuries to another man.

On Sunday, Sept. 18, 2022, we were called to the Monte Carlo Lounge and Bar, located at 322 10 St. N.W., for reports of shots fired from a vehicle into the business. As a result of the shooting, two people, a man and a woman, were injured. The woman was transported to hospital in critical condition. She has since been released and continues to recover from serious injuries. The man sustained non-life-threatening injuries and has made a full recovery.

Following an investigation into the shooting, Moses DANTO, 28, has been charged with two counts of aggravated assault and one count of discharge of a firearm with intent. We have recovered the firearm used in the shooting. DANTO is scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday, Jan. 10, 2023.

“This random shooting resulted in life-changing injuries for one of the victims, and showed a reckless disregard for public safety,” says Acting Staff Sgt. Shelby Stewart of the Calgary Police Service’s District 4 General Investigations Unit. “There were several people standing in front of the business when this shooting occurred and any of them could have also been struck. We continue to work tirelessly to address the gun violence in the city and hold people accountable so Calgarians can feel safe in their communities.”

Addressing gun violence continues to be a priority for our Service. Through investigation, prevention and enforcement activities we have coordinated our resources to reduce victimization and enhance community safety.

Our efforts to address gun violence rely on strong community support. If you have information that could help an investigation, such as witnessing suspicious behaviour or vehicles, please contact police. Even something small can have a great impact on an investigation.
