Calgary Fire Department responds to fully involved structure fire in the NW

At approximately 7:20 pm this evening, the Calgary Fire Department responded to a structure fire in the 100 block of Sage Bank Link NW. On arrival, fire crews were met with heavy smoke, small explosions and visible flames through the roof of a detached garage at the rear of the property. First arriving crews initiated an aggressive defensive attack to contain the fire to the structure of origin and prevent radiant heat from igniting adjacent structures.

There were two occupants working in the garage at the time of the fire and both escaped without injury. Surrounding homes were evacuated as a precaution. There were no injuries resulting from this fire.

At the time of this press release fire investigators are on scene attempting to determine the origin and cause of the fire. Calgary Fire crews will remain on scene over night to deal with hot spots and monitor the site.

The Calgary Fire Department would like to thank Calgary Police Service for their assistance on this call.
