Calgary Fire Crews Respond to Early Morning SW Fire

At around 4:10am fire crews responded to the 1100 block of 17 AV SW for a structure fire. On arrival fire crews saw heavy smoke coming from the back alley of a single-story restaurant. A fire engine staged on the 17th AV side while a second fire engine went to the alley side. Crews stretched hose lines and made entry into the alley side door where they encountered heavy heat and smoke conditions. Crews reported there was fire in the drop-down ceiling and applied water to cool down the environment while working their way to the seat of the fire. Multiple fire crews were tasked with attacking the fire and utilized ventilation to decrease heat and smoke conditions before knocking down the fire. As the incident occurred in the early morning hours, fire crews needed to force entry into one neighbouring business to check for extension. They found light smoke and ventilated and no other signs of fire extension or damage. The building on the other side is a separate high rise building and not impacted by the fire. There were no occupants inside and no injuries reported. Fire watch crews have been rotating to ensure the fire is completely out. Fire Investigators are on scene and have started an investigation into the origin and cause.
