Building Fire in Marlborough
Building Fire in Marlborough
On January 24th, 2025 at approximately 1:00 am the Calgary Fire Department (CFD) was called to the 900 block of 36 street northeast for a possible building fire. On arrival, crews found a multi-unit commercial strip mall with heavy smoke and fire showing on one side in the roof area. Firefighters forced entry into the building and quickly deployed hose lines to keep the fire confined to the roof area. Due to the size of the building and the magnitude of the fire on arrival a second alarm was struck.
Crews had to utilize aerial ladder apparatus and ground ladders to move firefighters to the roof area and open the affected portion. This access allowed for fire attack and made it possible for crews to bring the fire under control. Rapid search of the buildings revealed that there were no occupants, and the fire was held to the south end roof structure. CFD was assisted by Calgary Police to close 36 street to traffic, and both ATCO and Enmax were on scene to help manage utilities.
In all, 11 fire apparatus were required to bring the fire under control and ensure the safety of nearby businesses and residences. Fire crews will be on scene for the remainder of the night assisting with investigation and extinguishing hot spots. The cause of the fire is still being investigated.
