Boil Water Advisory issued for 100 Calgary homes in Eagle Ridge and Heritage Park

Alberta Health Services (AHS) has ordered The City of Calgary to issue a Boil Water Advisory for approximately 100 homes located in the community of Eagle Ridge and Heritage Park, effective immediately.

On Friday, October 16, City crews began repairs on a water main that supports the community of Eagle Ridge and Heritage Park. During the repairs, they experienced an unanticipated depressurization of the pipe and cannot guarantee the water quality.

As a precaution, Alberta Health Services is ordering a Boil Water Advisory. This issue is not related to the Bearspaw South Feeder Main.

To complete repairs all southbound lanes on 14th Street S.W. between 75 Avenue S.W. and Heritage Drive. S.W. will be closed until further notice. City crews will be working extended hours over the weekend to complete the repair and will restore a southbound lane as soon as possible.

All residents within the affected area are advised to bring all tap water to a rolling boil for one full minute prior to any consumption, including:

  • Drinking, including coffee and tea
  • Cooking
  • Brushing teeth
  • Cleaning raw foods
  • Preparing infant formula or juices
  • Making ice, etc.

In-home water filters are not sufficient and water in them must still be boiled before use.

You may instead choose to purchase bottled water for consumption for the duration of this advisory. Water wagons are being provided and their location will be available on calgary.ca/wateroutages.

When cleaning:

  • If you are not using a dishwasher, water used for cleaning surfaces or dishes should be boiled.
  • Water used for bathing and laundry does not require boiling.

For businesses:

Food Service Establishments, Care Providers and Personal Service facilities should contact Environmental Public Health at 1-833-476-4743 for direction.

This advisory will remain in effect until further notice. Updates will be available on calgary.ca/wateroutages.

The City of Calgary is working closely with Alberta Environment and Protected Areas and Alberta Health Services to resolve the water quality concerns.
