Alberta Animal Rescue Crew Society (AARCS) and Animal Services promotion for National Pet Appreciation Week

In recognition of National Pet Appreciation Week, AARCS is hosting an adoption event and The City of Calgary is offering pet owners microchipping this Friday, June 10 and Saturday, June 11, 2022.

AARCS is holding an adoption event, where a grant of $20,000 will be presented to AARCS from BOBS from Skechers and Petco Love, to recognize the organization’s community dedication and life-saving efforts.

“In 2021, AARCS began managing adoptions for The City of Calgary as a partnering agency. Together, we have helped hundreds of animals into new loving homes. So far in 2022 we have already seen an increase in the number animals coming in and are looking to the public to consider adoption when adding a pet to their family,” said Deanna Thomson, Executive Director, AARCS.

Animal Services is holding a two-day microchipping event to encourage people to license and microchip their cats and dogs. The event allows pet owners who license their cats and dogs to have a microchip implanted.

On both Friday and Saturday, the first 100 people who get a new cat or dog licence, renew their pet’s licence, or already have a current cat or dog licence, can have their pet microchipped.

Event details:
10 a.m. – 5 p.m. on Friday, June 10 (for dogs) and 10 a.m.– 3 p.m. on Saturday, June 11, 2022 (for cats)
Animal Services Centre

All cats must be in a carrier for this event.

A microchip is about the size of a grain of rice and is quickly and relatively painlessly implanted beneath your pet’s skin between the shoulder blades.

Family reunions are the priority of The City of Calgary’s Animal Services. Your pet’s licence and/or microchip serve as your pet’s identification and ticket home, should they get lost.
