Two alarm fire in Calgary NE

Calgary Fire Department (CFD) crews responded to reports of a structure fire in the 200 block of Rundlewood Close N.E. this afternoon. 

Firefighters arrived to find smoke and flames coming from the rear of a two-storey, single-family home. Due to the volume of fire and the risk of spread to neighbouring properties, a second alarm was called, bringing additional resources to the scene. 

Crews worked quickly to bring the fire under control. The source home sustained significant damage, while the attic of an adjacent house was heavily damaged. A second neighbouring home experienced minor exterior damage. 

No injuries were reported. At the time of this report all occupants have been accounted for. Due to the amount of damage, residents will be displaced and alternative housing is being arranged. 

Crews will remain on scene to ensure the fire is extinguished.

A CFD fire investigator remains on scene to determine the exact origin and cause of the fire. 

The Calgary Fire Department reminds residents of the following fire safety practices: 
• Ensure working smoke alarms are installed on every level of your home and outside all sleeping areas. 
• Test alarms monthly and replace batteries at least once a year. 
• Keep combustible materials away from the exterior of your home to reduce the risk of fire spread. 
• Have a home fire escape plan and practise it regularly with all household members.
