Youths charged with weapons-related offences
Three youths have been taken into custody for a total of 42 assault and weapons-related charges.
On Monday, June 19, 2023, starting at approximately 12 p.m., we received multiple calls for service regarding the occupants of a white Hyundai Sonata firing an unknown projectile at bystanders in the southeast communities of Auburn Bay and Legacy.
Officers located the vehicle at the intersection of 210 Avenue S.E. and Walgrove Drive S.E., and conducted a high-risk vehicle stop. The three youth occupants complied with officer commands and were safely taken into custody. Two airsoft guns were seized from the vehicle and so far, seven victims have been identified.
As a result, three male offenders aged 16 to 17 are now facing a total of 42 assault and weapons-related charges. The youths are scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday, June 27, 2023. Under the provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act, none of the offenders can be named.
The victimization of Calgarians through the use of firearms in any crime, or perceived use of firearms such as airsoft guns, is very real and can have lasting impacts on victims.
