Youth worker charged with sexual offences

We have laid additional charges against a youth worker previously charged in January after another victim was identified.

In January 2021, we began investigating a complaint from a male victim who alleged that starting in 2018, when he was 16 years old, he had been sexually assaulted on multiple occasions by a man employed as his youth worker in a program with Hull Services.

On Wednesday, Nov. 10, 2021, police charged Sean MAHEU, 39, with sexual assault and sexual exploitation. He will next appear in court on Thursday, Dec. 16, 2021.

“We acknowledge that it can be very confusing for a young person experiencing exploitation by someone in a position of trust,” said Staff Sergeant Michelle Doyle with the Calgary Police Service Sexual Assault Investigative Unit. “In this instance, the victim reported assaults that began in 2018 and we want to ensure people are aware that there is no time limit for victims to report a sexual assault in Canada.”
