Youth charged after high school lockdown

We have charged a 17-year-old male in relation to a high school lockdown that occurred earlier this month in the city’s northwest.

On Tuesday, June 3, 2025, at approximately 12:35 p.m., a lockdown was initiated at James Fowler High School, located at 4004 Fourth St. N.W., after a 15-year-old female had called 911 to report that a 17-year-old male was believed to have entered the school with a firearm.

Prior to the 911 call, it is believed the male and female had a brief verbal altercation off school property, and it was reported that the male entered the school with a firearm, resulting in a lockdown.

Both the male and the female were students at the school.

Upon arrival, police quickly identified the suspect and were able to determine he was no longer in the school and was not a threat to those inside, however, our officers continued to ensure the safety of students and staff as they worked to assess each room and area of the school.

The lockdown is believed to have lasted approximately two hours.

As a result of the investigation, on Sunday, June 22, 2025, the male was taken into custody and charged with:

·       Possession of a weapon dangerous to the public

·       Mischief

·       Carrying a concealed weapon

He will next appear in court on Friday, June 27, 2025.

The youth cannot be named under provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
