Working together as One for Calgary to deliver service value for Calgarians

Every four years The City defines its service plans that provide the financial framework for everything we do that’s important to citizens

Throughout the spring and summer months, we’ve been capturing feedback from thousands of Calgarians as well as members of the business community to help shape the service plans and funding for citizen programs for the next four year budget cycle.

Beginning today, and throughout the next three weeks, The City will present Council with high-level previews of the 2019-2022 service plans and have strategic discussions on the proposed focus areas.

One Calgary Program Lead, Nicole Schaefer explains how our approach is different this time as we’re moving from department based plans to a service based model.

“We heard that citizens care more about how City services such as snow clearing or business licensing are delivered, than who within our organization delivers those services,” says Schaefer. “Not only will this new model make it easier for Council to prioritize needs within the community and make more informed decisions, it will offer more transparency on the value of City services received for tax dollars paid.”

The schedule for these public presentations to Council and a sample of some of the services included is outlined below:

Sept. 4 – A Well Run City
Property assessment, records management and municipal elections

Sept. 5 – A Prosperous City
Social programs, business licensing and economic development and tourism

Sept. 6 – A City That Moves
Public transit, parking, sidewalks & pathways

Sept. 12 – A Healthy and Green City
Waste & recycling, water treatment and parks and open spaces

Sept. 13 – A City of Safe and Inspiring Neighbourhoods
Calgary 9-1-1, building safety and pet ownership & licensing

Sept. 17 – Civic Partners

Council will deliberate and finalize the 2019-2022 service plans and budgets the week of November 26-30.
