Woman charged in stolen vehicle incident that injured motorcyclist

A woman has been charged in relation to a stolen-vehicle incident that resulted in a hit-and-run of a motorcyclist.

At approximately 2:45 p.m., on Wednesday, April 30, 2025, a man stood outside of his running vehicle in the 2000 block of Erlton Road S.W., when an unknown woman entered the vehicle’s driver seat. The man and a nearby friend attempted to remove the woman from the vehicle, shattering the driver-side window in the process, however, the woman was able to flee in the vehicle.

Shortly thereafter, police received multiple calls from the public about a reckless driver who had struck a motorcyclist and fled the scene of the collision near Macleod Trail and 53 Avenue S.W. It is believed the vehicle rear-ended and mounted the motorcycle. Multiple Good Samaritans stopped to help the injured motorcyclist, who was subsequently taken to hospital in serious but stable condition. They remain in hospital.

Around 3 p.m., police received a report of an impaired driver in the area of 15 Street S.E. and New Street S.E.

Two minutes later, police received a report of a suspicious vehicle in the 0-100 block of Inglewood Point S.E. The driver was seen striking a barrier and then getting out of her vehicle to change clothes.

Officers had flooded the area by this point and were able to locate the suspect in the 1000 block of 15 Street S.E., sitting on a rock by a pathway. She was arrested without further incident.

A search of the suspect located a variety of forms of fentanyl and shatter (cannabis), worth an estimated $30,500. She was also found to be wanted on several outstanding warrants for failing to attend court.

Candice Lacey MINEAULT, 36, is charged with:

·        Two counts of possession of drugs

·        One count of fail or refuse to comply with a demand (drugs)

·        Motor vehicle theft

·        Dangerous operation causing bodily harm

·        Fail to stop at scene of an accident causing bodily harm

·        Failure to comply with release order

·        Fail to comply or breach of probation order

·        Operate unregistered motor vehicle on highway

·        Drive uninsured motor vehicle on highway

·        Operate motor vehicle without holding subsisting operator’s licence

·        Fail to report collision to police

·        Theft under $5,000 from a motor vehicle

She remains in custody and will next appear in court today, Thursday, May 1, 2025.

They quickly provided key information to police, which enabled us to locate the suspect and arrest her before any further harm could be done.
