Woman charged in downtown incident

We have charged a person after video of a disturbing incident appeared online. 

On Monday, Jan. 5, 2026, we received several complaints regarding a video posted to social media at around 5:00 PM that afternoon.

The video appeared to show a person throwing a traffic pylon over the edge of a balcony from a high-rise in downtown Calgary.

Using information from the social media posts, police determined the video had been filmed in an apartment building located in the 1100 block of Third Street S.E.

Police found the traffic delineator pylon, which weighs nearly 13 pounds, on the sidewalk outside of the building.

It was determined that the video was made two days earlier, on Saturday, Jan. 3, 2026, shortly before 12:30 p.m., and the pylon had been thrown from the fourteenth floor.

Officers were able to identify a suspect and arrested a person at a home on Calhoun Crescent, N.E.

“Throwing any object off a high rise is incredibly dangerous,” said Staff Sgt. Paul Ralstin of the Calgary Police Service. “We are lucky nobody was seriously hurt or even killed. By laying these charges, we hope to show how seriously police take crimes that some people think are simply pranks.”

A 28-year-old Calgary woman is now charged with one count of mischief causing danger to life.
