Woman charged in downtown attack

A woman has been charged following an attack on a teen in downtown yesterday afternoon.

At approximately 4:45 p.m., on Tuesday, July 16, 2019, police were called to the 600 block of Macleod Trail S.E., for reports of an assault. It is alleged a group of approximately five people confronted the teen, leading to an altercation that resulting in a stabbing.

Witnesses quickly jumped to the teen’s aid and called 9-1-1. The 17-year-old woman was taken to hospital.

Based on thorough descriptions by witnesses, officers were able to quickly locate a suspect nearby. The suspect was arrested without further incident. A 29-year-old woman is currently facing charges. Her name will be released once she has been formally charged by a Justice of the Peace.

Although this is believed to be a random attack, police continue to investigate what, if any, connection may have previously existed between the teen and the group who approached her.
