Witnesses sought in fatal collision

Investigators are seeking witnesses and dashcam footage to a three-vehicle collision yesterday that led to the death of one woman and injury to two other people.

Police were called around 2:50 p.m., on Friday, June 9, 2023, for reports of the collision on Third Avenue N.W., near the intersection of 33 Street N.W. Traffic reconstruction investigators believe a 2020 Hyundai Kona, driven by a woman in her 30s, was travelling westbound on Third Avenue N.W., towards the intersection at 33 Street N.W. It is believed that the driver crossed the center line into the oncoming lanes and struck an eastbound 2017 Honda Civic, driven by a woman in her 60s. The Civic was then struck by a second vehicle, a 2008 Jeep Liberty, which was traveling eastbound, driven by a man in his 40s.

The driver of the first vehicle, the Hyundai, suffered minor injuries and was transported to hospital in stable condition. The driver of the second vehicle, the Civic, suffered fatal injuries and died at the scene. The driver of the third vehicle, the Jeep, suffered minor injuries and was transported to hospital in stable condition.

Our condolences go out to the family and friends of the victim.

Investigators have ruled out alcohol and drugs as factors in this collision, however, speed is believed to have played a role.
