Warrants issued in weekend homicide

The Calgary Police Service Homicide Unit has issued warrants for second-degree murder in relation to a fatal altercation that took place yesterday.

At approximately 10 p.m., on Sunday, May 10, 2020, police were called to the 200 block of 52 Street S.E., for reports of a man in medical distress. Upon arrival, officers located a man in his 20s suffering fatal injuries. He was pronounced deceased on scene by EMS.

After speaking with witnesses, investigators believe the assault took place in a parking lot outside of the 7-Eleven, located in the 5300 block of 8 Avenue S.E.

Police identified a suspect and warrants have now been issued for his arrest. At this time, the incident doesn’t appear random and the victim and accused may be known to each other. Investigators are still working to determine a motive for the assault.

The victim’s autopsy has been rescheduled for tomorrow, Tuesday, May 12, 2020, by The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner. No further information about the victim’s identity or cause of death will be released until the completion of the autopsy.

Shay Vincent SADDLEBACK, 25, of Calgary, is wanted on a Canada-wide warrant for second-degree murder.

SADDLEBACK is described as Indigenous, 5’9” tall, 160 pounds, with a medium build, black hair and brown eyes. He has tattoos on both forearms. A photo of SADDLEBACK is available on The City of Calgary Newsroom.
