Update: Wanted on warrants for sexual assault – Karmal ISMAIL

Update: Thanks to tips from the public, Karmal ISMAIL was located and we are no longer seeking public assistance in relation to this incident. 

Original release: We are asking for the public’s help to locate a man who is wanted on warrants for sexually assaulting a woman in downtown Calgary earlier this month.

At approximately 6:30 a.m., on Sunday, Nov. 3, 2024, a woman was walking in the area of Sixth Avenue S.W. and 10 Street S.W., when she was approached by an unknown man who threatened her with a weapon.

The victim attempted to flee and took shelter in a nearby apartment vestibule, however the man followed her. Once inside the vestibule, he once again threatened her with a knife and then sexually assaulted her.

The suspect fled on foot shortly before Calgary Transit peace officers located the victim and contacted police.

Following an investigation, the man has been identified as Karmal ISMAIL, 33, of Calgary. He is described as approximately 5’11” tall, approximately 155 pounds, with a medium build, black hair and brown eyes. 

ISMAIL is wanted on warrants for sexual assault with a weapon and forcible confinement.
