Police ask for public’s help to locate person of interest

The Calgary Police Service is asking for help from the public to locate a person of interest in a suspicious death that occurred in the community of Marlborough Park.

At approximately 9:30 a.m., on Sunday, March 25, 2018, police were called to the 1000 block of Maitland Drive N.E., after a woman in her 20s was found deceased in the backyard of a house.

Evidence at the scene led police to believe the woman’s death is suspicious and the Homicide Unit has taken over the investigation. An autopsy on the woman is scheduled for Monday, March 26, 2018.

Investigators have identified a person of interest they believe is connected to the death and are asking for the public’s help to locate him.

Abderrahmane (known as Adam) BETTAHAR, 21, is described as 6’0” tall, with a slim build, light skin, brown hair and brown eyes. He is believed to be driving a 2004 dark blue Ford Explorer with the Alberta licence plate BZH 5688.

Police believe BETTAHAR may be dangerous and ask anyone who sees him or the vehicle to call 9-1-1 immediately. He should not be approached.

Photos of BETTAHAR and the Ford Explorer are available on The City of Calgary Newsroom.

While it is still early in the investigation, police do not believe this incident was a random attack.
