Victim of Wednesday stabbing succumbs to injuries

A man stabbed in an altercation in the northeast on Wednesday has died as a result of his injuries and an individual has been charged in relation to the incident.

At approximately 1:30 p.m., on Wednesday, Oct. 27, 2021, we were called to the area of 36 Street and Marlborough Drive N.E., for reports that a man had been assaulted. Upon arrival, officers located a man suffering from stab wounds. He was transported to hospital by EMS in life-threatening condition.

The victim died in the early morning hours of Friday, Oct. 29, 2021. Following an autopsy by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, we can now identify the victim as 51-year-old Gil James SCOTT.

The man taken into custody in relation to the assault has now been charged. Joseph Russel VERHAEGHE, 34, has been charged with manslaughter.

This is not believed to be a random incident.
