Victim identified in Mayland Heights homicide

Investigators continue to investigate a fatal assault that occurred over the weekend and are urging anyone with information to come forward.

At approximately 2:30 a.m., Saturday, Nov. 6, 2021, we were called to an apartment building located in the 1800 block of 14 Avenue N.E., for reports of a disturbance in one of the units. Upon arrival, officers located one male deceased inside the apartment.

An autopsy was completed today by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, which identified the victim as 65-year-old Raymond William SENECAL. Raymond is Calgary’s 18th homicide victim of 2021.

At this point, investigators have not been able to determine a suspect description, however it is believed that multiple offenders were involved. Based on evidence at the scene, we also believe that the victim was targeted, and offenders may have removed unknown items which they may be attempting to sell.

“In this case, the victim was targeted while he was inside his own residence,” says Staff Sergeant Martin Schiavetta of the CPS Homicide Unit. “This case is unsettling for many and we are really looking for the public’s assistance to help direct our investigators.”

“There are people out there who may have seen something, or might even know who is involved, and we are asking them to come forward to police or anonymously to Crime Stoppers,” said Staff Sergeant Martin Schiavetta.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact police by calling 403-266-1234. Tips can also be submitted anonymously to Crime Stoppers through any of the following methods:
