Police investigating suspicious death in East Village

We are on scene and investigating after a man was found by passerbys suffering from injuries believed to be sustained during an assault.

At approximately 1:20 a.m., earlier today, Tuesday, Oct. 25, 2022, we were called to the 400 block of 6 Avenue S.E., for a report of a man in medical distress on the sidewalk. Despite lifesaving efforts from witnesses and first responders, the man was transported to hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

Initial evidence suggests the man died as a result of a fatal altercation, however an autopsy by The Office if the Chief Medical Examiner will be scheduled for later this week.

Our officers remain on scene speaking to witnesses and collecting CCTV to determine the circumstances that led to the man’s death, as well as the man’s identity.

If deemed a homicide, this would be Calgary’s 23rd homicide and the second in three days.

Anyone with information about this incident, or the man’s identity, is asked to contact police by calling 403-266-1234. Tips can also be submitted anonymously to Crime Stoppers through any of the following methods:
