Victim identified and suspect charged in fatal altercation

Following an autopsy by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner and next of kin notifications, the victim of a fatal altercation on Tuesday in a downtown apartment has now been formally identified as 19-year-old Antonio WALLACE-MURILLO.

Investigators believe the victim and the suspect knew each other. It is alleged a verbal altercation occurred which escalated to a physical confrontation. The suspect is alleged to have stabbed the victim, causing fatal injuries.

Justin Riley RICHARDSON, 18, is charged with manslaughter. He will next appear in court on Friday, Sept. 3, 2021.

Man dead following altercation in downtown apartment

The Calgary Police Service Homicide Unit is currently investigating after a man died following an altercation at a downtown apartment last night.

At approximately 9:45 p.m., on Tuesday, Aug. 31, 2021, police were called to the 600 block of 5 Avenue S.W., for reports that two men had become involved in an altercation within the apartment. The victim was found within the apartment in life-threatening condition and officers initiated emergency first aid until EMS could arrive. The victim was transported to hospital and subsequently died of injuries sustained in the altercation.

Three people were taken into custody from the apartment. Two have been released and one remains in custody at this time.

An autopsy has been scheduled for today, Wednesday, Sept. 1, 2021.
