UPDATE: Woman charged in downtown attack

Police can now confirm Chantel Nicole BLACKFACE, 29, has been charged with aggravated assault and breach of probation. She will next appear in court on Monday, July 22, 2019.

Woman charged in downtown attack

A woman has been charged following an attack on a teen in downtown yesterday afternoon.

At approximately 4:45 p.m., on Tuesday, July 16, 2019, police were called to the 600 block of Macleod Trail S.E., for reports of an assault. It is alleged a group of approximately five people confronted the teen, leading to an altercation that resulting in a stabbing.

Witnesses quickly jumped to the teen's aid and called 9-1-1. The 17-year-old woman was taken to hospital.

Based on thorough descriptions by witnesses, officers were able to quickly locate a suspect nearby. The suspect was arrested without further incident. A 29-year-old woman is currently facing charges. Her name will be released once she has been formally charged by a Justice of the Peace.

Although this is believed to be a random attack, police continue to investigate what, if any, connection may have previously existed between the teen and the group who approached her.
