Police seek public assistance in identifying suspect involved in dangerous driving incident
We are asking for the public’s help to identify a man who is believed to be involved in an incident where a woman was dragged by a vehicle in the city’s northeast.
On Friday, May 26, 2023, at approximately 6:50 p.m., the victim was at the corner of Edmonton Trail and 16 Avenue N.E., believed to be panhandling. The victim walked into the parking lot of a nearby convenience store and had a brief interaction with an unknown man, who was driving a silver Toyota Echo.
The victim began to walk east on 15 Avenue N.E. The man also began to drive east on 15 Avenue N.E., and stopped his vehicle near the victim.
It is believed the victim requested money from the man, which he agreed to give, before he unexpectedly pulled the money back and quickly accelerated the vehicle.
At the time, the victim was holding onto the vehicle and was dragged for approximately 150 to 200 metres as the vehicle continued to accelerate and travel forward. The victim subsequently fell off the vehicle and sustained serious injuries.
A friend of the victim carried her to a nearby residence and called 9-1-1. The victim was transported to hospital. She has since been released and is recovering.
We are now asking for the public’s help to identify the suspect.
The man is described as approximately 25 years old, 5’6" tall, with a slim build. He has black hair, a chin-strap goatee and moustache. He was wearing a red T-shirt with a white oval shaped logo on the chest, black pants and red shoes at the time of the incident.
Photos of the suspect and the suspect vehicle are available on the City of Calgary Newsroom.
