Update: Sunalta shooting investigation

A man is recovering in hospital following a shooting last night in Sunalta, and the Calgary Police Service Centralized General Investigations Unit continues to investigate.

At approximately 6:35 p.m., Tuesday, June 27, 2017, police were called for reports that a man was shot while inside an apartment in the 1900 block of 11 Avenue S.W. Upon arrival, a man in his 30s was transported to hospital in life-threatening condition. He was later upgraded to serious but stable condition.

A number of witnesses were transported to police headquarters for questioning, including one witness who attended the CPS Victoria Park station and identified himself as such.

At this time, investigators believe three men fled the scene of the shooting in a blue 2017 Jeep Cherokee. The Jeep was later recovered by police in the downtown area. A warrant is currently being sought for further examination of the vehicle.

Investigators believe this was not a random incident, although the specific motive is still unknown at this time.

No one is currently in custody in relation to this investigation. No further information is available at this time.
