Update: Search for mother of newborn baby

UPDATE:

The mother of a newborn baby found in the area of Ogmoor Crescent and 76 Avenue S.E., has been located.

She is receiving required supports.

The baby has been assessed by medical staff and deemed healthy. She is currently being cared for by protective services.

“We understand that this is a concerning incident and ask that anyone who finds themselves in a situation where they cannot care for a child, call 2-1-1 to be connected to community and social supports”, said Staff Sergeant John Guigon, Child Abuse Unit. “The safety of all children in our community is paramount and we are here to support families in their times of need.”

At this time, the matter is not considered criminal in nature, therefore no additional details will be released.

ORIGINAL RELEASE:

Shortly before 5 p.m., today, Thursday, March 19, 2020, we were made aware of a newborn baby left alone in the area of Ogden.

Officers responded to a call at a residence in Ogden, where upon arrival, they were told by a woman that she found the baby while out on a walk with her dog.

The baby, that could be up to a few days old, was found in the area of Ogmoor Crescent and 76 Avenue. S.E., in a box, covered with a blanket.

The baby was taken to hospital by EMS, where she is in stable condition.

At this time very few details are known and our primary concern is for the wellbeing of the mother.
