Update: Police seek public assistance in Evergreen shooting

Our Homicide Unit continues to investigate a shooting that occurred this morning in the southwest community of Evergreen, and we are now asking for the public’s help to identify a vehicle believed to be involved in the shooting.

At approximately 8:20 a.m., today, Thursday, Aug. 18, 2022, police were called to the 0 - 100 block of Everwoods Court S.W., for reports of a man and a woman in a parked vehicle suffering from what appeared to be gunshot wounds.

The woman, now identified as Nakita BARON, 31, was declared deceased at the scene and the man remains in hospital in life-threatening condition.

It is believed an unknown man approached a vehicle parked in a driveway and fired shots into the vehicle before fleeing the scene in an SUV described as a black Mitsubishi Eclipse, manufactured between 2017 and 2020.

Stock images similar to the vehicle believed to be involved in the shooting are available on the City of Calgary Newsroom.

“We are asking any witnesses who have not come forward with information to contact police,” says Staff Sergeant Sean Gregson with the Calgary Police Service Homicide Unit.  “Although this does not appear to be a random incident, it remains unknown which of the victims, or if both, were targeted in this brazen act of violence which occurred at a time when families were active in the neighbourhood.”

We continue to canvass the area for CCTV footage and no other details are available at this time.

An autopsy for BARON is scheduled for Friday, August 19, 2022, at 9 a.m.
