Update: Police investigate homicide in Greenview

Last month, we asked for the public’s assistance to provide information on a homicide that occurred in the northeast community of Greenview.

Today, Friday, March 8, 2024, as a result of information from the public and ongoing investigative efforts, one man has been charged in relation to the homicide.

Hans Nicolas JIMENEZ VARELA, 27, of Calgary has been charged with one count of second-degree murder.

He will next appear in court on Monday, March 11, 2024.

“We had very little information to begin with, and through the efforts of our investigators scouring hours of CCTV and weeks of canvassing the neighbourhood and speaking with residents, we were able to bring answers to Jose’s family and loved ones,” says Staff Sergeant Sean Gregson of the Calgary Police Service Homicide Unit.
