Update: Ongoing hazardous materials incident in southwest Calgary

Work is ongoing as we continue ensuring public safety in the Manchester Industrial area in relation to a hazardous materials incident.

Controlled detonations of the hazardous materials have begun and for your safety, we ask residents to avoid the area. Loud bangs, fire and bursts of smoke are expected.  It is not known how long this process will take. Updates will be made available online at www.calgary.ca/manchesterclosure

All impacted businesses have been evacuated by officers on scene.

At this time, there are no public safety concerns for individuals located outside of the evacuation zone. If the evacuation zone needs to be expanded, we will notify businesses and Calgarians directly.

We thank Calgarians for their patience and cooperation while this situation is being resolved.
