Update on Calgary Recreation Facilities

Calgary Recreation facilities will remain open for the time being.

The City of Calgary is working closely with Alberta Health Services. At this stage, The Province is not recommending their closure, but has imposed a limit to social gatherings of more than 250 people, which will limit the number of visitors to some facilities.

According to the research brought forward by Dr. Deena Hinshaw and the team at AHS, the COVID-19 virus is not transferred through pool water.

For other recreational uses, it’s important to maintain good physical distancing to those also using the facilities. Calgary Recreation facilities and those operated by our partners have instituted a number of measures to increase the physical distance between patrons and increase levels of cleanliness.

As always, individuals must also be responsible. Practice good hand hygiene and clean your equipment thoroughly after use.

It’s important that we each manage our physical and mental health. Exercise, social contact, and maintaining our connection to our neighbours is also important.

We will continue to follow the recommendations of AHS, and will update our actions and policies as required.

As always do not come if you’re sick. Even a little. No sniffles, no mild colds, no GI issues — nothing that could cause others’ immunity to be compromised.
