UPDATE: Officer-involved-shooting in southwest Calgary
A man has died following last night’s officer-involved-shooting in Kingsland.
Just before 9 p.m., on Saturday, Jan. 27, 2018, police were called to an apartment building in the 600 block of 68 Avenue S.W., for reports of a man yelling, screaming and throwing things in the second-floor hallway.
Officers arrived on scene and attempted to speak with the resident, a man in his 40s. After half-an-hour of negotiating, and utilizing de-escalation techniques, the situation suddenly developed. The man jumped from his second-story balcony and confronted officers. At approximately 9:30 p.m., an officer-involved-shooting occurred. Although specific details can’t be released, police can confirm weapons were recovered at the scene.
Officers provided emergency first aid to the man until EMS arrived on scene. He was taken to hospital in life-threatening condition, where he died early this morning, Sunday, Jan. 28, 2018. An autopsy is scheduled for Monday, Jan. 29, 2018.
No officers were injured as a result of this incident.
The Alberta Serious Incident Response Team maintains this investigation. No further information will be released by the Calgary Police Service.
