Update: Multiple people in custody in relation to homicide investigation

Three men have been charged in relation to a complex homicide investigation.

The victim of Calgary’s 27th homicide of 2016 has been identified as Ezzulddin AL-OGAIDI, 17, of Calgary.

Three of the four individuals arrested at the Dover property on Sunday have been charged. The fourth was released from custody without charges.

Ahmed ABID, 24, Mohammed KHALIL, 28, and Ashraf Jasem AJIL, 23, have all been charged with accessory after the fact to murder. They will next appear in court on Thursday, Dec. 8, 2016.

A fifth man taken into custody on Monday was released from custody without charges pending further investigation.

Multiple people in custody in relation to homicide investigation

The Calgary Police Service Homicide Unit has taken multiple people into custody in relation to the homicide of a teen this weekend.

At approximately 7:40 p.m., on Saturday, Dec. 3, 2016, police were called to the 0-100 block of San Diego Way N.E., for a check on welfare call. The caller had heard a loud noise and was concerned for the welfare of the people in the residence. Upon arrival, police did not locate anyone requiring assistance.

The next day, police received information about a possible homicide that occurred at that same location on Saturday. As a result, an investigation began that involved a number of police resources in an attempt to corroborate the details provided, and locate the man believed to have been harmed.

The investigation led officers to a residence in the 100 block of Dover Tree Place S.E., where four men were taken into custody. Two vehicles were seized at the residence. Police applied for search warrants for the vehicles as well as the locations of at Dovertree Way S.E. and the San Diego Way N.E.

On Monday, Dec. 5, 2016, officers located a body believed to be that of a 17-year-old male in a remote area just north of Morley. Next of kin notifications have been completed and an autopsy is scheduled to take place on Wednesday, Dec. 7, 2016.

In addition to locating the body of the victim on Monday, investigators also located a fifth individual believed to be connected to the investigation.

Charges are pending against three individuals arrested at the Dover residence. Their names and charges will be released once they have been formally charged and have seen a Justice of the Peace.

Investigators are searching for a sixth person believed to be a witness in this case and are asking for the public’s help to locate her.
