Update: Man charged in domestic-homicide and assault

A 32-year-old man has been charged in relation to an assault on two women that resulted in the death of one of them.

The two women, both in their 60s, were assaulted within an apartment by a man who is related to them in what is believed to be a domestic-related homicide. The identity of the of the homicide victim has been confirmed through investigative measures and is being released due to the relationship to the accused and in an attempt to further garner information from the public relevant to the investigation. An autopsy will be conducted on Tuesday, July 25, 2023, to determine cause of death.

Sol HARDER, 60, died as a result of her injuries. She is the mother of the accused.

The other injured woman remains in stable condition in hospital.

John Patrick Bon HARDER, 32, of Calgary, has been charged with one count of second-degree murder and one count of attempted murder. He remains in custody and will next appear in court tomorrow, Tuesday, July 25, 2023.

Homicide Unit investigating following downtown assault

Our Homicide Unit is currently on scene investigating the death of a woman which occurred following an assault at a downtown apartment building.

At approximately 4 p.m., today, Sunday, July 23, 2023, we were called to a residence in the 1100 block of Sixth Avenue S.W., for reports of an assault.

Upon arrival, officers located two women with injuries, who were transported to hospital. One woman sustained minor injuries, and the other was in critical condition, and sadly, succumbed to her injuries a short time later.

One man was taken into custody at the scene and is believed to be associated to the victims.   

An autopsy is scheduled for Tuesday, July 25, 2023.

As the investigation is in the early stages, no additional details are available at this time.
