Update: Investigation into suspicious deaths

The Calgary Police Service Homicide Unit continues to investigate the circumstances that led up to the death of two people last weekend.

Preliminary autopsies on the man and woman were conducted yesterday, Tuesday, Dec. 19, 2023, have not ruled on the manner of death, pending further testing.

To further the investigation into the two deaths, police are identifying the deceased individuals in hopes that people will come forward with information in relation to their movements in the days leading up to their discovery. Investigators do not believe any other individuals were involved in their deaths.

The deceased have been identified as Christina THOMSON, 45, of Calgary, and Thomas HOWELL, 48, of Rowley, Massachusetts.

Anyone with information about the movements of the two individuals, or their relationship, is asked to call police.

“Our condolences go out to the friends, colleagues and family of those involved in this tragic incident. We still have many questions to answer for the loved ones and are hoping anyone with information will come forward,” says CPS Homicide Unit Staff Sgt. Lee Treit.

Investigation into suspicious deaths

The Calgary Police Service Homicide Unit is investigating after a man and a woman were located deceased in a residence downtown.

Shortly after 9 p.m., on Friday, Dec. 15, 2023, police were called for a check on welfare for a woman who had not been heard from for several days, causing concern for her friends. Officers located the woman deceased within her residence in the 0-100 block of 34 Avenue S.W., along with a deceased man.

Autopsies have been scheduled for Tuesday, Dec. 19, 2023, to determine manner and cause of death, as well as provide formal identification of the individuals. Until this has been complete, no further information can be shared.
