Update #3 – Police investigating two deaths

Investigators have located the 2023 Subaru Outback sought in connection to a murder-suicide which occurred in Spruce Cliff on Saturday, April 15, 2023.

Update #2 - Police investigating two deaths

Following an autopsy that occurred today, Monday, April 17, 2023, police can now confirm that the two deaths that occurred on the weekend in Spruce Cliff are believed to be a case of murder suicide. The identities of the individuals involved are being released to further the investigation as detectives search for people who may have more information about the events leading up to the deaths. Investigators are also seeking assistance from the public to locate the suspect’s vehicle.

At approximately 7:10 p.m., on Saturday, April 15, 2023, police were called to the 0-100 block of Spruce Place S.W., where several bystanders had located a deceased woman. As first responders were assessing the situation, a man jumped from an upper-level balcony. He was declared deceased on scene.

The female victim has been identified as 69-year-old Joanne Suk-Wah TSE. Her manner of death has been determined to be homicide. 

The man located deceased at the scene has been identified as 61-year-old De Lin TANG. His manner of death has been determined to be suicide. Police are releasing his identity in hopes of furthering the investigation into what led up to this tragic event and the murder of TSE. Anyone with information about the movements of the two individuals, or their relationship, is asked to call police.

Investigators are also seeking TANG’s vehicle and anyone who may have information about who may have it. It is described as a white, 2023 Subaru Outback, with Alberta plates CNR0008. A photo of a similar vehicle is attached to this news release.

“This event was domestic in nature, however, we believe this was a new relationship and we are still trying to determine the nature of the relationship and the events that led up to this tragic outcome. Our condolences go out to the family and friends who have been impacted,” says CPS Homicide Unit Staff Sgt. Sean Gregson.

Update #1 - Police investigating two deaths

We continue to investigate two deaths that occurred last evening in Spruce Cliff. Our Homicide Unit is on scene and the investigation is ongoing.

An autopsy for both individuals is scheduled for tomorrow, Monday, April 17, 2023.

This incident was witnessed by many members of the public. We recognize it may be upsetting to those who witnessed it and want to ensure witnesses and those impacted by this event are connected with support. Our Victim Assistance Support Team (VAST) will be deploying a mobile trailer in Spruce Cliff today, Sunday, April 16, 2023, at 1 p.m., with trained volunteers for all those impacted by the incident yesterday. VAST will be providing support, resources and information.

We ask the public and the media to be respectful to witnesses arriving at the VAST trailer to access supports and resources, and to allow them space and privacy.

We are currently on scene investigating two deaths in southwest Calgary. 

At approximately 7:10 p.m., today, Saturday, April 15, 2023, we were called to a medical collapse in the 0-100 block of Spruce Place S.W. Upon arrival one person was declared deceased. As emergency crews were assessing the situation, a second person was located deceased. The investigation is ongoing and there is no risk to the public. 

As this incident took place in a public area, we recognize it may be upsetting to those who witnessed it and want to ensure witnesses and those impacted by this event are connected with support.
