Update #2: Police investigate suspicious death in Carrington

Following an autopsy led by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, the suspicious death that occurred in the northwest community of Carrington last week has been deemed a homicide and the victim has been identified.

At approximately 5 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 16, 2024, we responded to the 14200 block of First Street N.W., for reports of a shooting. Upon arrival, officers located one person deceased.

The victim has been identified as Hoang Phuoc Dat NGUYEN, 42. The incident is believed to be targeted.

A short time after the shooting was reported, a vehicle fire was reported in Rocky View County, between 176 Avenue and Township Road 264. It is believed the vehicle fire may be related to the shooting.

Our Homicide Unit continues to look for information, dashcam or CCTV footage from anyone who may have seen a black Dodge Caravan travelling north, between the 14200 block of First Street N.W. in Calgary and Township Road 264 in Rocky View County, between 5 and 5:30 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 16, 2024.

We are also asking for information from anyone who may have had contact with the victim in the two days leading up to the homicide.
